West Virginia Women's Commission Seeking Student Ambassadors

Dear College/University Colleague,

The West Virginia Women’s Commission is excited to announce the creation of its first class of Student Ambassadors. The chosen young women will not only hold the prestigious title as a WVWC Student Ambassador, but will also work closely with WV Commissioners as they work to create opportunities and resources that enhance the lives of all WV women. They will act as an advisory team to the Commission regarding issues that impact young WV women. As well, they will represent the WVWC at various events throughout the State and design resources and help publicize activities that meet the needs of WV women.

We are searching for exemplary students to become WVWC Ambassadors for their respective colleges. We are asking Women’s Studies Departments, Women’s Centers, and Gender Studies Departments as well as other departments to recommend one to three students who meet the following criteria:

  • Are currently enrolled at a WV college or university for the time serving as an representative
  • Can serve as the college/university representative on all things relating to the WVWC’s activities and goals for a full academic year
  • Have good academic standing (GPA: 2.5+)
  • Can electronically attend WVWC quarterly meetings and shorter bi-monthly meetings (when necessary)
  • Have the ability to host at least one campus event highlighting the WVWC’s goals and legislative agenda items
  • Can volunteer and recruit volunteers for WVWC events
  • Are interested in women’s studies and supporting the work of the WVWC
  • Are willing to dedicate 5 to 10 volunteer hours a month to the work of the WVWC

The student is asked to complete an application which requires an uploaded recommendation from one women’s/gender studies professor, or a women’s center employee, or other professor. If you have students who are interested, please ask that they complete the application found at no later than Friday, February 17, 2017. The WVWC will notify chosen applicants via a telephone call and an email sent to them and their recommending professor.

Thank you in advance for your attention to this endeavor.
