Student Life Events Week of Sept 26th

It’s Tent City time boys and girls, time to get that moldy sucker off your bedroom closet floor (no one told you to dry it off before you put it away last year) and head to the Mountainlair for a week full of whatever it is you kids do in a tent for five days (studying I’m sure.) Let’s help you out…

On Monday, it’s “Corn Hole Kickoff.” We’ll supply the corn hole, you supply the kickoff (made no sense).  Get those tents set up and stop on by.

WVU Students Optimistic for Curing Kids (S.O.C.K-IT) Meeting

Join us October 3rd at 6 pm in 106 Olgebay Hall and find out how you can "SOCK-IT" to pediatric cancer!

Students Optimistic for Curing Kids (S.O.C.K.-IT) is a student organization aimed at raising funds and awareness in order to "SOCK-IT" to Pediatric Cancer. Throughout the year, we raise funds in hopes of greatly alleviating the financial strains that pediatric cancer has put on families in West Virginia.  In addition to fundraising we increase awareness through our presence on social media, various campus events, and new agencies.  Come join us for our second meeting of the semester October 3rd at 6 pm in 106 Oglebay Hall and find out how you can SOCK-IT to pediatric cancer!

PAWS With A Cause

Honors College Freshman! Want a chance to be selected to have lunch with Dean Blemings or get special treats from Sasha, our therapy dog? Download a ballot, get one from your Residence Hall RA, stop by the Honors College Office, or you may even get a surprise visit from Sasha one day. She’s making her way around campus. Complete the ballot and submit it to the dropbox in the Honors College Office in Honors Hall. Up to 5 students will be selected each month to attend lunch with the Dean on the 30th of the month. (Don’t worry Summit Hall, Braxton Towers, and Oakland Hall HC students. You will have plenty of opportunities too!)

The purpose of lunch with the Dean is to allow first year Honors students the opportunity to interact with Dean Blemings in a small group, ask questions, and hopefully gain some insight that will help them progress in their academic endeavors.

Mountaineer Week Gearing Up With Competition Registrations

Mountaineer Week Photo Contest:  Submit your photos showcasing West Virginia to:  Winners receive $100 for first place; $75 for second place; $50 for third place.  The prize money can be redeemed for merchandise at All Pro Photography, the event sponsor.  The deadline to enter is Friday, October 21st at 3:00 pm and each WVU student can enter three photographs.  For more questions, please contact Elizabeth Keim at  Please enter today!

Mountaineer Idol Gives Back, Needs Your Help

We are currently looking for student organizations, Greek organizations, residence halls, WVU Departments, and the community to collect new stuffed animals for Jessi’s Pals at WVU Medicine Children’s.  The event will be held on Saturday, October 8th at 8:00 pm in the Mountainlair Ballrooms.  In addition to collecting stuffed animals, a silent auction will be held (so bring cash with you) and a recycling program will be offered in which Coca-Cola will donate $5 to WVU Medicine Children’s for each empty can or bottle that is brought to the competition to recycle.  YOUR HELP IN ALL OF THESE COMPONENTS OF THE PROGRAM ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED.  For more information, please contact or Elizabeth Keim at

Mountaineer Idol Continues This Friday Night

Mountaineer Idol will continue with the second round of competition this Friday at 8:00 pm in the Mountainlair Ballrooms.  The Top 12 Finalists will be singing songs from the “80’s” trying to remain in the heated competition.  The finalists competing will be:  Scott Link, Tyler Shaffer, Sadiyyah Owens, Mikalaa Martin, Marisa Terwilliger, Sabrina Miley, Brooke Cottrill, Zakery Morris, Erika Baselice, Ta’Von Ransom, Izzie Keim, and Bethanie Aylor.  The co-hosts for the event are Julie Merow and Mac McIntyre.

Wellness Workshop Series

With mid-terms fast approaching, it is normal for students to experience increased stress and anxiety. As part of the Wellness Workshop Series, The Carruth Center for Psychological and Psychiatric Services is sponsoring this FREE Wellness Workshop Series to help students manage these feelings in healthy, effective ways.  All workshops will be held from 6:30-7:30 pm in CPASS Room 101. Check out the flyer for the list of upcoming workshops.
