Adventure WV First Year Trips Recruiting Summer 2019 Staff

Each year Adventure WV runs summer First Year Trips for over 1,000 incoming freshmen to help students develop strong friendships, adventure around the state, learn about WVU, and engage in relevant discussions about their transition to college. 

Trip Leaders and Program Support Staff are the backbone of these programs; facilitating positive and transformative experiences. Each year Adventure WV invites 30-40 new staff to join their Leadership Training Program and Summer Leadership Team; Adventure WV is proud of their small, dedicated, and outstanding community of student staff members.

Help Kids and Gain Healthcare-Related Experience with WVU PEP

Like kids? Aiming for a career in education or healthcare? Join PEP — Fun for the Fight! The Pediatric Entertainment Program (PEP) is a non-profit organization that aims to help alleviate the stress child patients incur during their hospital stays through entertainment. The PEP chapter at WVU focuses its initiatives on education, teaching first graders of Monongalia County the importance of basic nutrition and first aid.

Mr. and Ms. Mountaineer Applications Now Open — Due Sept. 17

Seniors with strong records of academic achievement and extracurricular involvement are encouraged to consider applying for Mr. and Ms. Mountaineer. To apply, students will need to complete the online application, which includes questions about their community activities, recognition/awards/honors, work experience, two essay questions, and a recommendation letter. 

Applications must be submitted online by Monday, Sept. 17 at 4:30 p.m. A $20 application fee and the recommendation letter must be submitted to the Mountainlair Administrative Office also by 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 17. More information can be found on the 2018 Mr. & Ms. Mountaineer online application.

Last year's Mr. and Ms. Mountaineers were both Honors College students!

Scholarship Opportunity for Juniors Committed to Public Service Careers

Harry S. Truman Scholarships recognize students who excel academically and are committed to careers in public service, broadly defined. Scholarships provide $30,000 in funding for graduate study in any field. Juniors are eligible to apply. 

Applications are due to ASPIRE by Sept. 24. Each university can nominate up to 4 people for the Truman, and the West Virginia University committee will meet to review all of the application materials in order to help determine who to endorse. A copy of the application with instructions on how to complete and submit it can be found here on the ASPIRE website.

Volunteering Opportunity - Walk to End Alzheimer's

Join fellow Honors College students in the Walk to End Alzheimer's! The Honors College team is being organized by Brice Shumate and other students from Honors Hall, with plans to expand the team to include any Honors College students at WVU.

The 2018 Walk to End Alzheimer's will be held Oct. 14 at the WVU Coliseum Complex. The team's goal is to raise $2000 for the event. See more information or donate on the team page here, or contact Brice Shumate to get involved.

WVU Pre-Medical Track Program Applications Now Open

The WVU Pre-Medical Track is an early assurance program designed for selected undergraduate students at West Virginia University. Students accepted into the Pre-Medical Track will receive counseling through the Office of Admissions and will be able to participate in exclusive workshops at the WVU School of Medicine.

Those students who successfully complete the requirements of the Pre-Medical Track will be guaranteed an interview with the WVU School of Medicine (though not guaranteed acceptance). Read more about the WVU Pre-Medical Track program and how to apply here.
