Leadership in Adventure Education Opportuniteis

Want to develop leadership skills? Learn outdoor skills? Connect with other students in the Honors College? Have an experience similar to your First Year Trip? Never went on a First Year Trip and want to try it out? Earn Honors Credit? Train for work with Adventure WV?

Adventure WV & the WVU Honors College have partnered for Spring, Summer and Fall of 2019 to offer new opportunities for students in the Honors College. 

Spring 2019

Earn Honors College Credit by taking RPTR 251: Leadership in Experiential Education, Section 003.

  • Qualifies students to apply to work as First Year Trips Leader and Outdoor Trip Staff during the 2019 season —although there is no work commitment (many will take the course without planning to work with Adventure WV—that’s okay!)
  •  Covers the essentials for working with groups in an outdoor setting
  • This course includes a required field weekend
  • There is no cost associated with this course
  • RPTR 251 is a restricted course .  Students wishing to register must contact the course instructor, Marion Holmes: marion.mcclure@mail.wvu.edu.

Summer 2019

If you went on a First Year Trip and would like a similar experience, or you missed out on the opportunity and want to hear what it’s about, sign up for the Adventure WV Honors Sophomore Trip. 

  • June 8-13, 2019 (Saturday-Thursday)
  • Open to current WVU Honors College rising sophomores
  • Enrollment is limited to 20 students
  • Price will be $190, all-inclusive
  • Program will be led by experienced Adventure WV student staff members
  • Program will have a loose curriculum focusing on reflection on the first-year and making plans for a solid sophomore year
  • Program will be based at the New River Gorge. Tentative activities include whitewater rafting, rock climbing and hiking.
  • Participants are encouraged to register for RPTR 251: Leadership in Experiential Education, Fall 2019 (see course details above)

Fall 2019

Honors Sophomores who attended the Adventure WV Honors Sophomore Trip (see details above) (or other similar program) are eligible to register for RPTR 251: Leadership in Experiential Education, Fall 2019.  See course details above.

  • Qualifies students to apply to work as First Year Trips Leader and Outdoor Trip Staff during the 2020 season—although there is no work commitment (many will take the course without planning to work with Adventure WV—that’s okay!)
