How You Can Help

There are many ways you can help the Honors College for WVU’s fifth Day of Giving! To help you identify the ways in which you think you can be most effective, see the challenges sorted by timing and type below, and don’t forget to check out the WVU Honors College Day of Giving page here to learn more about what your support will help fundNote: all times listed are Eastern Daylight Time.

Before the Day of Giving - Until March 8 at 11:59 PM

Most Shares Challenge

  • Share the WVU Foundation Video on the Honors College Facebook page from Feb. 28. The top three pages with the most shares by 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8 will win additional funding! 

Most Creative Challenge

  • Day of Giving Social Prop Challenge. Print and follow the instructions on this card linked here, and come up with a creative post using the WVU Tokyodachi! Post to social media between now and March 9 and tag the Honors College (Facebook, Twitter or Instagram). Don’t forget to use the #WVUDayofGiving hashtag! The one best photo, video or GIF posted will win $1000 for the unit of their choice. 

On the Day of Giving - March 9 from 12 AM - 12 PM EDT

Photo and Video Challenges – Most Posts/ Most Creative

  • 9 AM – 10 AM - Campus Photo Challenge – MOST POSTS
    Find or take a photo on campus that you love! (This can of course include you and/or your family and friends, or just a nice landscape photo of campus.) On March 9, share the photo on Twitter or Instagram with the #WVUDayofGiving hashtag and tag the Honors College! The top three participating groups with THE MOST POSTS will win additional funding.
  • 2 PM – 3 PM – Thank a First-Responder or Frontline Worker Challenge – MOST POSTS
    Post a special message thanking a first responder or frontline worker who is making an impact during the pandemic. Use the hashtag #WVUDayofGiving and tag the Honors College! The top three units will receive bonus funding.
  • 4 PM – 5 PM – WVU Gear Kid Photo Challenge – MOST CREATIVE
    Share a photo of your kid(s) in WVU gear on Twitter or Instagram with the #WVUDayofGiving hashtag and tag the Honors College! The top three most creative posts will win additional funding.
  • 7 PM – 8 PM – WVU Gear Pet Photo Challenge – MOST CREATIVE
    Share a photo of your pet(s) in WVU gear on Twitter or Instagram with the #WVUDayofGiving hashtag and tag the Honors College! The top three most creative posts will win additional funding.
  • 9 PM – 10 PM – “Country Roads” Challenge – MOST CREATIVE
    Record a video of yourself (or a group!) singing or performing “Country Roads” with the #WVUDayofGiving hashtag and tag the Honors College! The three most creative will earn additional funding.
  • ALL DAY – For Donors – MOST CREATIVE
    Did you donate on the WVU Day of Giving? After donating, use the “share” feature from the confirmation page to tell others about your gift on Twitter or Instagram using #WVUDayofGiving and #IGave and tagging the Honors College . At the end of the day, the Foundation will select the three most creative social posts from Twitter or Instagram to receive additional funding for the units tagged.

  • 8 AM – 9 AM – Tweet Challenge – TIMING CHALLENGE
    Help WVU Day of Giving gain traction on Twitter by promoting the day and the Honors College with this challenge! Make sure to tag us with @HonorsCollege and use the hashtag #WVUDayofGiving
    • 5th Tweet - $500
    • 25th Tweet - $1000
    • 50th Tweet - $1500
  • 8 PM – 9 PM – Tweet Challenge – TIMING CHALLENGE
    Help WVU Day of Giving stay on people’s feeds in the evening with this challenge! Make sure to tag us with @HonorsCollege and use the hashtag #WVUDayofGiving
    • 5th Tweet - $500
    • 25th Tweet - $1000
    • 50th Tweet - $1500

Most Gifts Ambassadors Challenge

  • Sign up to be a WVU Honors Day of Giving Ambassador and help spread the word about giving back to the Honors College on March 9, 2022! The top three registered ambassadors who inspire the most gifts through their unique URL will win additional funding for their unit.  

Donation-Based Challenges

If you are planning to give to the Honors College on the Day of Giving March 9 (and we hope you are), give strategically to help us unlock additional funding from the WVU Foundation! See below for the various challenges we feel we may have a chance of winning.

  • 12 AM – 1 AM – Most Gifts Challenge (this one may be less popular and easier to win)
    Donate as little as $5 to the Honors College! The top three participating groups with the greatest number of gifts will win additional funding.
  • 7 AM – 8 AM – Most Gifts Challenge
    Donate as little as $5 to the Honors College! The top three participating groups with the greatest number of gifts will win additional funding.
  • 10 AM – 11 AM – Most Alumni Gifts Challenge
    The top three groups with the most gifts from WVU alumni will win additional funding!
  • 12 PM – 1 PM – First-Time Donors Challenge
    Planning to give to WVU for the first time at the Day of Giving? Give to the Honors College during this time to help us unlock additional funding! The top three participating groups will win.
  • 1 PM – 2 PM – Most Gifts Challenge
    Donate as little as $5 to the Honors College! The top three participating groups with the greatest number of gifts will win additional funding.
  • 4 PM – 5 PM – Most Friends Gifts Challenge
    The top three units with the most gifts from friends (not alumni, current students, or staff) will win additional funding!
  • 10 PM – 11 PM – Repeat Gifts Challenge
    Have you already made a gift on the WVU Day of Giving? Give again to help us secure this challenge! The top three participating groups with donors who give an additional gift will win additional funding.
  • 11 PM – 12 AM – Most Gifts Night Owl Challenge
    Donate as little as $5 to the Honors College! The top three participating groups with the greatest number of gifts will win additional funding.

Honors College Challenges

  • Honors Alumni Matching Challenge
    Former Foundation Scholars and Honors College/Program alumni Brian Caveney, Patrick Esposito, Brad Keller, Matt Schessler, and Danielle Waltz have generously partnered with us for this challenge. The 12th gift of $200 or more to the Honors College on the Day of Giving will unlock this challenge.
  • Honors Student Challenge – Number of Gifts
    Did you know donations of as little as $5 can have a large impact? Students are encouraged to give to the WVU Honors College this March 9 to help us support our students and university. This year, if  15 or more current Honors students make a gift of $5 or more to the Honors College during this year's Day of Giving, it will unlock a special surprise from Dean Blemings and Associate Dean Clement!
