Virginia Desouky

Associate University Librarian / Scholarly Engagement Librarian
Health Sciences Library at WVU Libraries

As part of the Health Sciences Library team at West Virginia University, Virginia Desouky serves as a team leader for librarians, faculty, staff and students by providing research support, teaching information literacy, and planning and implementing library initiatives. Her primary focus in her position is instruction on library resources for students, staff and faculty. She also provides specialized research services, including research consultations, systematic review consultations and course-specific library instruction. Her position as a Health Sciences Scholarly Engagement Librarian allows her to actively engage with students, staff, residents and faculty to build strong collaborative working relationships in assigned disciplines. She works closely with the School of Public Health as well as the departments of Surgery, Cardiology and Geriatrics from the School of Medicine.

She is excited to have the opportunity to serve as an Honors EXCEL program affiliate by helping students build their research skills and creativity. She was attracted to the program due to its emphasis on giving dedicated students a chance to grow through learning as they develop skills that will serve them well in their professional lives. She is looking forward to the challenge of working with students outside of the Health Sciences disciplines, guiding and supporting them throughout their projects’ development while they work to contribute to society via community-oriented outcomes. She enjoys spending her free time exploring West Virginia’s state parks with her dogs and playing viola in several area amateur orchestras.
